Miami Trip Spring '14

Our trip went off without a hitch. She behaved SO WELL in the airport and on the plane. I couldn't believe this was my baby. What a difference a couple of months makes! When I traveled with her alone back home for Christmas, she was not having it in the stroller at the airport, refused to eat any of the snacks I had, and exhausted me before we even got on the plane. Hopefully this continues, as we're flying again soon in June!

I had lots of new stickers for her to use, a plain notebook for her to stick them on, and crayons in case she wanted to color. I also had the iPad with us, which really is what saves the day. The flight from NC to Miami is an hour and forty minutes; thankfully, not too long. The first half of the flight we went through the stickers and pasted them in my notebook. When she started getting bored of that, I took out the iPad and we went through the apps and then she started to watch Frozen. I didn't bring anything for myself, no books or magazines, thinking I'd have no chance to relax. But I was wrong! I couldn't believe it. So on the flight back I took some of my Mom's magazines and actually finished one, cover to cover!

On to the fun stuff! We had such a wonderful time visiting with family. We saw everyone we wanted to see and did everything we wanted to do. My brother had a graduation party, we went to his ceremony, I met my cousin's newborn baby, and saw friends I didn't expect to see. I'm so glad we went, even though we went without my husband. I missed him so much and sent him tons of pictures daily of what we were doing so he wouldn't feel left out. It sure is hard to travel without him.

We arrived on Saturday and settled in. The next day was my brother's graduation party. My mom got balloons for the party and we went together to pick them up. Miss A was surrounded by them in the car, just the way she wanted. She is obsessed with balloons.

My mother-in-law also got her a giant Mickey balloon the next day. After that, every morning when she woke up, she immediately asked for her "MICKEY BA-LOON".

Yes, having breakfast while holding on to her Mickey balloon!

The next day we went to visit the Miami Seaquarium. It was a hot, humid day but we enjoyed the shows and watching the dolphins jump in the air.

The following day was my brother's graduation ceremony! Miss A and I had some time to kill in the morning as my parents went to attend a smaller ceremony with him and we met up with my good friend and her daughter. She was much happier to take pictures than Miss A was. I hate that she no longer smiles when I say cheese!

It was so good to see them and catch up. We have been friends since the 6th grade and we always try to meet up when I'm in town.

Later on we changed into our party clothes and headed to the ceremony. FIU happens to be my alma mater and I hadn't been back since I graduated six years ago. It was bittersweet, thinking of all the time I spent there, seeing the new buildings, hearing the commencement music, marveling at how much my life has changed (for the better) since then. I never would have imagined having my little girl next to me, watching her uncle graduate from college.

Miss A did great during the ceremony. I took along the iPad, stickers, snacks, and a coloring book. She munched on her snacks and watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse until my brother marched across stage. Then we went outside to wait for him and the rest of my family.

There was music playing and Miss A got down to doing what she loves- dancing! I don't know where she learned her moves, girlfriend is already a better dancer than me.

The only picture she smiled in all day- with the graduate! I wonder if it was because of his funny hat? :)

On our last day we went to visit my cousin in the hospital and took a dip in the pool. Her favorite thing to do- get in and out of the pool, to throw in the pool toys and fish them back out. Maybe she's not quite ready for swimming lessons yet?

We're already looking forward to our next trip- Sanibel Island! This time around my husband will be there to soak up the rays and spend some quality time with his family. Until we meet again Miami!

  3. WOW what a fun trip! Glad you had a good time with family. I love that giant Mickey Balloon too! I'm so glad she did so great on the flight! I don't bring much for myself either because it's so much work with a toddler. The game changer for us was getting Callie her own seat -- we started at 18mo -- she's just too big to be a lap baby. Anyway with her own seat and own car seat she was amazing! Looks like you had or scored a seat for Miss A!! Also for your next flight we got some kid headphones from target that are awesome and Callie would leave them on about 1/2 of the 3 hours flight to watch mouse, movies, etc on her iphone or our ipad.
